Egal, ob auf oder abseits der Strecke: Ein Mudder kann jedes Hindernis überwinden und weiß wie es sich anfühlt, Großes zu leisten.

Hardy competitors continue to press on despite the cold wind, trying to hit mileage goals and go home with a coveted 25, 50, or 75 mile WTM bib. Overall #1 Ryan Atkins crossed the finish line approximately 15 mins ago, having completed 95 miles with an insurmountable 9 mile lead on second place Jarrod Pace (86 miles) of Sydney, Australia. Ryan will stop and repeat as the World's Toughest Mudder. The battle in the overall is now between Jarrod and Trevor Cichosz of Woodland, Washington, USA (85 miles) for second.

Participants survived a very windy and extremely cold desert night. As the sun comes up, staying warm is a #1 priority for all. Atkins leads overall with 89 miles, pushing himself towards the 100 mile mark. Boone is now in 5th with 70 miles to her name.

At World's Toughest Mudder 2014, the two respective WTM 2012 and 2013 women's champions, Amelia Boone and Deanna Blegg, will give their all for another chance at WTM glory.

Ironically, however, they won’t be direct competitors.

All Mudders know that over the course of a single Tough Mudder event day, you're going to feel a million different things. Not all those feelings will be good ones. In 12 miles, you're almost guaranteed to feel scared, overwhlelmed, unsure and tired. No doubt, there will definitely be some lows.

But Mudders also know that there is huge reward to pushing through those lows. You get to feel strong, accomplished and passionate. And that's just the beginning. Here are 3 of our favorite Tough Mudder feelings, illustrated by photos.

1. Winning WTM is only possible if you are an ultra-marathoner.

It's true that in order to compete in WTM, you need to bring your A game. But that doesn't necessarily mean you have to have run ultra marathons. WTM is as much about mental grit, stamina, and heart as it is about physical endurance.

After a sixth place finish at World’s Toughest Mudder 2013, Team Wheaties is primed for Vegas and eager to make another bold attempt at WTM glory. To do so, they’ll need to edge out last year’s team champions, 3am Waterfalls, Under Armour’s All-Australian Team and a pack of scrappy underdogs from across the globe.

Thien-than C su-Chet’s (aka “TNT”) favorite Tough Mudder course is Raceway Park, home to Tough Mudder Tri-State. Ask him why, and he’ll tell you that it’s storied, gritty, rugged and demands absolute respect.

Having gotten to know TNT over the past few months, I find that in describing Tough Mudder’s most storied venue, he’s inadvertently describing himself.

With just days left to sign up for World's Toughest Mudder 2014, contenders are approaching their final, yet pivotal stretch of training. Faced with the extreme task of covering 100 miles of obstacle-riddled terrain in 24 straight hours for any chance at victory, one would assume training is a full-time job - and it very well could be.

10. 'FIRE IN YOUR HOLE' IS AS INSANE AS IT LOOKS

Ominously looming over the Tough Mudder course, this fire-breathing beast of an obstacle, the crown jewel of Legionnaire’s Loop, is accessible only to Mudder Legionnaires-- Mudders with one or more previous Tough Mudder finishes.

Last season, we tested one obstacle called Dark Lightning on a few Tough Mudder courses. Part Boa Constrictor, part Electric Eel, the obstacle required Mudders to army crawl through water while live electric wires dangled over them...in pitch darkness.

Due to the absurdity of attempting such an obstacle in complete darkness, we pulled it from our course catalogue.

Thousands of people around the world have come through the Tough Mudder Volunteer Program, and we’re thankful for every single one of them. But there’s one Mudder who has gone beyond the call of duty for the past two years, spending countless hours of her free time to ensure that no Mudder gets left behind, in every sense of the term.

If you’re getting advice from even the most seasoned World’s Toughest Mudder (WTM) contenders, be sure to take it with a grain of salt (or more appropriately, sand) because for the first time ever, the extreme 24-hour military obstacle course race will be held on never-before-experienced WTM terrain--the desert sands of Las Vegas.
